A 51-year old man, Kazeem Salau, arrested for sleeping with a 15-year old girl, has stated that he did not rape her because the victim was mature enough for sex and he had easy penetration into her private part.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Segun Akinola Close in Ebule Egba area of Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect allegedly lured the victim into his apartment, got her confused her before he engaged her in sex and then allowed her to go.

However, after the act, the victim having realized what happened reported to her parents that Salau had threatened her before forcing her into the act.
The matter was reported to the Police; Salau was arrested and detained at the Station for investigation. He reportedly admitted that he had sex with the victim with her consent and it was not a case of rape. He also revealed to the Police that he had easy penetration after he touched her private parts as such the victim had been having sex before he slept with her.
The Police found him culpable for statutory rape despite the fact that he denied because the victim was still a minor.
He was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates court for sexual assault but his plea was not taken.
The prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because the victim was a minor.
The Presiding Magistrate, P.E. Nwaka, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice. The matter was adjourned till 2nd September, 2019.

The defendant may be in prison custody for several years if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends that he should be tried for statutory rape and he gets convicted before the Court.
