Meet Anambra’s New Attorney General

The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, CFR, has appointed  Tobechukwu Nweke SAN as the new Attorney General of Anambra State. The appointment was announced yesterday 23rd March, 2026.
Tobechukwu Nweke is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a chattered arbitrator,  a native of Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State
He studied Law at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus and graduated in 2008. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja and was thereafter called to the Nigerian Bar in November, 2009, as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
In 2018, he ventured into arbitration and eventually attained the peak of the profession and was in 2023 conferred with the esteemed rank of Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom (FCIArb (UK).
He studied a short course in “Project Risk Management” in the prestigious University of Oxford, United Kingdom and earned a Certificate from the University in February 2025
He also studied a short course in “Contract Law: From Trust to Promise to Contract” at the prestigious Havard University, USA and earned a Certificate from the University in February 2026
Tobechukwu  is a holder of a masters degree in law (LLM) from  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State
He started his law career at the law office of Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN & Co. in Abuja where he did his National Youth Service Programme from 2009 to 2010. He was thereafter retained as a Solicitor in the Firm and barely four years after, he rose to become the Managing Solicitor of the Firm in 2013. He had a robust legal practice in the Firm and has to his credit, numerous land mark cases which have shaped the legal jurisprudence in Nigeria.
In recognition of his contributions to the development of law in Nigeria and his excellence in the practice of law, he was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in September 2024 at the age of 39 years. He is reported to be the youngest Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Anambra State and one of the youngest in Nigeria
Tobechukwu had his primary school education at All Saints Premier Primary School, Onitsha and his secondary school education at Dennis Memorial Grammar School, (DMGS) Onitsha between the year 1995 to 2001.
Before his appointment as the Honourable Attorney General of Anambra State, he was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters and was appointed into that office in 2022.
This is the first time after 20 years, that an SAN is appointed as Attorney General of Anambra State. The last SAN who held that office is Nnoruka Udechukwu SAN.who served during Ngige regime between 2003 and 2006.
Many people have lauded Governor Soludo for the appointment describing it as one done on merit rather than on political consideration, bearing in mind the sensitive nature of that office in the government of the State
