As this year’s Lagos State Challenge Cup is getting closer, a Lagos-based amateur club, Messiah Football Club of Ikeja, have sent a strong warning to Mountain of Fire MFM Football Club of Lagos and other participating teams to forget the trophy.
Head Coach of Messiah FC, David Dosu made this assertion in a chat with PM EXPRESS recently at the Agege Stadium. He said his team have started preparation for the annual Challenge Cup, boasting that no team could stop them from winning the tournament.
“We are not coming to Lagos State Challenge Cup to make a number, but we are coming there to cause upset and prove bookmakers wrong that we can win the trophy without the fear of any club. I have won many laurels for many clubs as a player and a coach in the past, but I want to win this year’s Lagos State Challenge Cup for Messiah FC,” he said.
Dosu. popularly known as apelete. is aware that this year’s Lagos State Challenge Cup will be tough considering the grassroots clubs springing up every day but noted that it will be a huge disappointment for him if he fails to win the trophy.
“I am expecting a lot of teams and other professional clubs to feature in this year’s Lagos State Challenge Cup, but I want to say it loud and clear that no team can stop Messiah from reaching the final. I know teams will want to underrate us but they will blame themselves at the end of the day. Any team that are grouped with us should prepare for war and forget the match,” said Dosu, who has started training with over 30 players on Monday at African Primary School, Ifako- Ijaiye.
The former goalkeeper training of Gateway Football Club said that for him to achieve his goal, he needs to engage his boys tough friendly matches within and outside Lagos. He said he had submitted his programmes to the management of the club before he can start executing it.
Meanwhile, a member of Lagos State Football Association, Dotun Coker has urged grassroots teams and professional clubs to come and register for Lagos State Challenge Cup before registration deadline February ending. He said the organizers are expecting more than 100 clubs to involve in this year’s edition.
Presently now fewer than 20 teams have confirmed their readiness to take parts in this year’s Lagos State Challenge Cup.
