Microfinance Bank Staff Remanded For Stealing Company’s N4.9m

A staff of Greenville Microfinance Bank, Emmanuel Ekakati, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing the company’s money to the tune of of the sum of N4.92m. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the bank’s branch located at Abaranje Road, Ikotun area of Lagos, where Ekakati was employed as a staff.
The 30-year old suspect was charged for stealing and conversion of the money to personal use.
According to the Police, between November, 2022 and June, 2023, the suspect did convert the money to his personal use without the consent of the bank’s management.
The alleged scam got exposed after the bank conducted an internal audit and discovered that the money was missing. He was summoned to explain what happened but he did not give satisfactory answers.
Thus, he was handed over to the Police at Ikotun Division for interrogation over his alleged conduct and he was found culpable after rounds of interrogation for tempering with the money.
He was consequently charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 26th June, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
