MIIA Opens Registration for 6th Free Online Media Training Series

The Media Integrity Initiative Africa (MIIA) has announced the sixth edition of its Free Quarterly Online Training Programme, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing ethical, innovative and future-ready media professionals across Africa.

The two-day virtual training will hold on Saturday, 15 August and Saturday, 22 August 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (WAT), via Zoom.

Since its inception, MIIA has continued to provide practical, high-impact professional development opportunities for journalists, editors, broadcasters, public relations practitioners and other communication professionals and enthusiasts.

The August 2026 cohort reflects the Initiative’s continued focus on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to navigate today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

Day 1 – Saturday, 15 August 2026

Words That Divide: Media Stigmatisation and the Challenge of National Cohesion

Facilitator: Tony Onyima, PhD – Former Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Sun Newspapers; Former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Anambra State; Managing Consultant, Bridgehead Communications Network Ltd.

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Multimedia Storytelling 101

Facilitator: Adeboye Ola, PhD – Veteran Journalist; Deputy Provost, Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos.

Day 2 – Saturday, 22 August 2026

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Telling Human Interest Stories in Health Reporting

Facilitator: Oluyinka Shokunbi – Veteran Health Editor; President, Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria; Managing Editor, HealthStylePlus Online.

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

New Forms of Storytelling: What Matters?

Facilitator: Azu Ishiekwene – Former Editor and Executive Director, The Punch; currently Senior Vice Chairman/Editor-in-Chief, Leadership Newspapers.
