NAPPS Eti Osa LG Chapter Set To Host Schoolympics

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Eti-Osa Local Government Chapter, in collaboration with Lexicon Communications Ltd., a leading events and sports management consultancy, have unveiled plans to organise the “Schoolympics,” a school sports festival aimed at bringing together secondary and primary schools from various categories to compete in a broad range of sporting activities.

This event is set to take place in the first term of a new academic session between Oct and Nov 2025.

According to the organisers, there will be preliminary games (qualifiers) in Eti-Osa Local Government Area in designated schools with standard sports facilities and subsequently the finals which would hold inside the main bowl of Teslim Balogun stadium and Row Park Yaba. The event promises to be an exciting occasion, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of fun and competition among participants.

“The primary objective of “Schoolympics” is to promote fitness, teamwork, and discipline among students. These traits are essential for individuals to home in order to thrive successfully in their academic and future professional pursuits. As emphasized by the World Health Organization (WHO), regular physical activity is crucial for the healthy growth and development of children and adolescents, contributing to improved physical and mental health.

The event will feature a variety of sporting activities, catering to different interests and age groups such as track and field events, indoor sports and sports quiz amongst the primary and secondary classes. By engaging in these activities, students will not only enhance their physical abilities but also develop important life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and leadership and sportsmanship. According to a study published in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, participation in sports can significantly improve cognitive function and academic performance in children,” Moses Nwanze, the MD/CEO of Lexicon Communications Ltd at a press conference to officially launch Schoolympics in Lagos recently.

According to the chairman of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Eti-Osa Local Government Chapter, Folorunsho Christopher, the “Schoolympics” event is scheduled to take place during the midterm brake in the 1st term of a new session in 2025. The event is expected to attract all member schools of NAPPS Eti Osa chapter, making it a significant gathering for students, teachers, and sports enthusiasts alike.

By hosting “Schoolympics,” NAPPS aims to create a platform where students can come together, share experiences, and develop lasting bonds through sports. This initiative aligns with global efforts to promote youth development through sports, as highlighted by the United Nations’ recognition of the importance of sport for development and peace.
