Nigeria At 62: Nigerian Youths Are Ripe For Leadership, Says Ofumelu

The lawmaker, who doubles as the Deputy Chairman House Committee on Women Affairs at the 9th Assembly, in his Independence Day message, signed by his Director, Media and Strategic Communication, Uloka Chukwubuikem, called on young people to take back the affairs of their country.

He mentioned that Nigeria, as it’s today and at 62, remains a shadow of its former self, but there is hope with young people emerging as leaders in the 2023 general elections, and beyond, as they have a better worldview and can think out modern solutions to our numerous challenges.

“Concerningly, despite having enormous mineral resources and human talent, which God blessed us with, sixty-two years after independence and freedom from the colonial era, we have nothing to show for it. I believe it is time for young people to strive for the pinnacle of leadership and support one another for us to jointly change the narratives.”

While advocating for young Nigerians to be given control of their country’s affairs, Ofumelu stated that the goal of every Nigerian ahead of 2023 should be to build a Nigeria of national unity, an economically stable, a motivated work force, and a country that will support and satisfy the ambitions of its young population. He urged citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria not to despair, saying that there is still hope.

Ofumelu used the occasion of Nigeria’s Independence Day to remember all political prisoners and to mourn the deaths of victims of insecurity and other national maladies across the country.

“Although the challenges are enormous, they are surmountable” he said.

The flag bearer for the Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency for 2023 noted that his constituents remain his greatest motivation, stressing that their support has been overwhelming and hoping to keep representing their interests in the National Assembly beyond 2023.
