Nigeria-Burundi Inaugural Joint Commission Will Create Opportunities For Trade & Investments – Amb Elijah Onyeagba

Ahead of the upcoming inauguration of the Nigeria – Burundi Joint Commission slated for the 28th and 29th of July, 2021, the Head of the Nigerian Diplomatic Mission in Burundi, His Excellency Amb Elijah Onyeagba PhD, has reiterated the commitment of Nigeria to support Burundi in its efforts in strengthening democratic institutions, promoting  good governance, improving security, counter corruption and terrorism.

The upcoming Nigeria – Burundi Joint Commission also aims to build institutional capacity in the provision of health and educational services and increase in agricultural productivity and food security in Africa.

The Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada, will lead the Nigeria Export and Promotion Council (NEPC), the Nigeria Investment and Promotion Council  (NIPC) among other Nigerian Parastatals to Bujumbura for the signing of the first ever Nigeria – Burundi Joint Bilateral Commission.

According to the Nigerian Envoy to Burundi, Amb. Onyeagba, highlights will be the Execution of the First Ever Bilateral Agreements between the two African countries. The bilateral agreements to be executed will focus on these key areas:


~Political Consultation

~Educational Cooperation 

~Technical Aid Corps 

Since both countries are signatories to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Ministries of Trade and Investments of both countries will be discussing the modalities to aid the implementation of the AfCFTA agreement. 
Other areas of focus will include Tourism, Mining, Manufacturing, Agriculture  and the Oil & Gas sector.”

The bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Burundi will in the coming days bring smiles to citizens and business organisations in the both countries.
