The Secretary to Ikeja Local Government, Lagos State, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has reiterated that Nigerian youths are not in anyway lazy. This is against the backdrop of the belief of some members of the older generation that the Nigerian youths are not ready to work.

AKOD, who was impressed at the turn out of the youths at a recently organized screening for an employability training organized by Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in conjuction with MIDROM at the Ikeja Sports Center, was amazed at the very early turn out of the youths in their hundreds aiming to take advantage of the laudable scheme. Infact, over 3000 youths from across Lagos State turned up at the screening exercise.

AKOD partnered with the organizers of the scheme to ensure that Ikeja Youths are the first beneficiaries of the employability training praised the youths for their resilience, hard work and creativity as well as their ‘can-do- spirit’.

Comrade Dauda said that he is always proud of the youths in Ikeja Local Government, especially concerning the way they are always ready to get engaged anytime and anywhere the opportunity presents itself.

He further said that Nigerian youths are shining examples all over Africa and the world at large, breaking old records and setting new milestones of credible achievements and doing exploits in various fields of human endeavours such as academics, business, information technology, creative entertainment and other activities where they are showing much capacity and making the black nation proud.

AKOD stressed that in all of these exploits, Ikeja Youths never took the back seats.

He also admonished Government at all levels to focus on the Nigerian Youths; urging the leaders to give the youths all the necessary support and make the environment conducive for business, sporting and recreational activities and technological innovations, adding that Nigerian Youths will spring surprises and perform excellently if given the leverage and conducive atmosphere to thrive.

In conclusion, AKOD pledged to continue to support Ikeja Youths with immense human and material resources at his disposal even as he maintained that when we build the youth, we are invariably building the nation and for us to have a better tomorrow, the Youths must be supported.
