NNPCL GMD, Mele Kyari Not Suspended From Office

Posted on June 11, 2023

Contrary to the social media rumours and fake news that gained ground Saturday evening, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari, has not been suspended from office.

Social media rumours and unconfirmed story that Kyari had been suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu went viral. The story prompted many oil and gas industry players, local and foreign reporters to be making enquiries from Government circles.
The suspension from office of Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced by the office of Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, gave wings to the rumours of Kyari’s sack.
Sources at the NNPC and State House in Abuja confirmed that Kyari is busy with his job and there is no official communication from the government on the purported sack.
The story of Kyari’s sack was initially attributed to Daily Trust Newspaper before it went viral on social media platforms especially on WhatsApp, where it has been shared many times.
