No December Money For Falconets, Flamingoes – NFF
Francis Achi/Abuja.
Expectations that Nigeria’s U-17 and U-20 female national teams, the Falconer and the Flamingoes respectively, will be paid their outstanding entitlements before the month runs out have been dashed by Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, as Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the scribe of the football body, has said that the federation is not financially stable to offsets the debts owed these players and their officials.
Dr. Sanusi disclosed this in an exclusive chat with PM EXPRESS in Abuja on Tuesday, as he informed that the NFF is saddened with this unfortunate development in the national teams of Falconets and Flamingoes. He assured that efforts are being made to pay these players and their officials immediately there is availability of funds.
“I am not happy at all to tell you that Falconets and Flamingoes are yet to be paid all their entitlements. The federation is expecting money from our sponsors and once we get this money , our main priority will be to pay the players and their officials, ” Dr. Sanusi said.
He added: “The NFF would have loved to pay all the teams their entitlements before the end of the year, especially during this festive period , but the reality is that , there is no money, unless there is a miracle”
However, feelers reaching PM EXPRESS indicates that the players of Flamingoes and Falconets are planning to stage protests in Abuja to draw the attention of the Federal Government to their plight as it happened to the Super Falcons .
It would be recalled that the Super Falcons had to stage series of protests for two weeks before the Nigeria Football Federation and the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youths bury their heads in shame and the Presidency had to intervene to eventually pay the victorious Super Falcons, who won the Africa Women Championship, AWC, tournament for the record 8th time , beating Cameroon 1-0 in the final in away Yaoundé.
