The Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC , has described the appointment of Dr Kweku Tandoh as the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission as a right step that will add values to the development of sports in Lagos State.
Secretary General of the NOC, Mr Tunde Popoola said this when Tandoh led the management team of the Sports Commission on a courtesy visit to the NOC at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos last Thursday.
Popoola said Tandoh’s experience in sports is something the NOC, as the number one sports agency in Nigeria, is even tapping into, adding that the NOC indeed appreciated the wisdom Governor Akinwunmi Ambode used in choosing Tandoh to head the Lagos State Sports Commission.
“We have the belief that Lagos sports is in the hands of trusted and tested administrator who has done so much for sports in Nigeria. Lagos has what it takes to be the leader in Nigerian sports and with the new board I know the bar will be raised to the next level.
“The visit of Dr Tandoh to the NOC is a milestone to boost and foster cordial relationship with the NOC and we are ready to partner Lagos in any area that will enhance development of sports in the state, ” Popoola said.
The NOC scribe wanted the Sports Commission to send its staff to some of the capacity building courses which the NOC is organising in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee, IOC this year.
In his response, Dr Tandoh told his host in the Conference Room of the NOC that Lagos Sports Commission was so grateful with the support from the NOC over the years, adding that the new management wants more of the support.
“As Mr Popoola rightly said we will send our staff and coaches to internationally recognized courses to further build our capacity building plans, even as we are planning to come out with a four-year masterplan for Lagos State Sports Commission which we will need more inputs from the NOC, ” Tandoh said.
