NPC Commences Pre-Census Exercise In Imo

The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced housing census in Imo State in preparation for the forthcoming population census.

The exercise, called Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD), would be carried out in Mbaitoli Council area of the state.

Declaring the exercise open, Prof Uba Nnabue, the NPC Federal Commissioner representing Imo State, explained that the programme would help facilitate even development across the country.

He appealed to stakeholders in the area including traditional rulers and community heads to cooperate with his staff and give them the necessary  support to enable them deliver on the expected goals.

He said, “The demarcators will move around during this exercise in your community numbering houses and making enquirers about households, mapping enumeration and registration areas in collaboration with INEC”.

Nnabue said the success of the exercise would also ease difficulties and irregularities that may be encountered when the actual census commences.

Also speaking, the Imo State coordinator of the exercise, Abubakar Saidu, made it clear that the Commission would be making use of the number of existing wards, adding that the Federal Government would base the allocations of resources on the data gotten from the current exercise.

In his own remarks, the chairman of Presidents General in the LGA, Chief Vincon Uwakwe, assured the visitors of their safety, adding that they would be given the best hospitality and support.
