The Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba, has said the Board has demanded from the IGP to present a five-year comprehensive strategic plan of action aimed at achieving the total transformation of the Nigeria Police Force as promised by President Buhari.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the former IGP, Abba, also stated that the Trustees fully identified with the current calls by Nigerians, especially the youths for Police reforms.

While addressing the press at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Abba revealed that the Board has also aligned itself with the decisions and actions already taken by President Muhammadu Buhari and the IGP Muhammad Adamu over their proactive response to the demands by Nigerian youths.

He also disclosed that the BoT is considering the implementation of extensive training, provision of requisite state -of -the -art equipment as well as an appropriate welfare plan for personnel.

According to Abba, the establishment of the NPTF is a clear example of Buhari’s commitment to reform the Police Force.

He said, “In line with the recommendations of all previous Police reforms reports, Mr. President ensured the establishment of the NPTF. The objectives of which consummated the recommendations of previous Police Reforms Reports”.

“These earlier Police reforms recommendations provided for objectives of the NPTF as spelt out in sections 3 & 5, NPTF (Establishment) Act, 2019. They constitute a summation of government Police reform agenda which the NPTF is mandated to achieve.”

He further stated that the objectives of NPTF is to manage and control the special intervention fund established in NPTF Act for training and retraining of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, provision of state of the art security equipment and improving the welfare of the Police personnel.

Consequently, Abba noted that the BoT has just risen from an emergency meeting where it considered the implementation of extensive training, provision of requisite state -of -the -art equipment as well as an appropriate welfare plan for personnel to be deployed to the new Tactical Team and other specialized Units of the Nigeria Police Force.

He thereby commended President Buhari and IGP Adamu for responding as appropriate over the #EndSARS protests.

This is as he appealed to Nigerians and the protesters, in particular, to reciprocate Government’s democratic posture and give their support to the current Government reforms.
