Obaseki Commissions Tablet Computer Production & Repair Centre In Benin

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, commissioned the Imose tablet Production Center at the Benin Technical School, where students will be equipped with the skills to produce and repair tablet computers.

Obaseki was accompanied on the commissioning by the Secretary to State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq.; Chief of Staff, Hon Osaigbovo Iyoha; Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe and the Commissioner for Housing, Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, Isoken Omo amongst other government officials.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to technical and vocational education, the governor said his administration is connecting all the 18 local government areas to fibres which will be extended to schools in the state to drive the industrial revolution.

He noted, “In 2016 and 2017 when we took over office, over 30,000 Edo youths struggled to cross to Libya and other countries, and education was one of the problems that prompted such moves. We did not accept the drop in the attendance in schools as it facilitated irregular migration and human trafficking and my administration moved to change this trajectory. We are achieving results and have been recognized around the world.

“The EdoBEST programme has continued to shape and improve the quality of education in Edo as the State is the only sub-national invited to attend the World Bank’s Global Education Summit. We will continue to talk about our successes in the education sector.

“As we celebrate the education week, it’s our pleasure to unveil another innovative programme which will add value to the lives of our students as they not only get certificates but skills that will make them employable or create more jobs for others.”

Restating the government’s vision to transform the education sector, Obaseki added, “They continue to fight us for daring to do the right thing as we refuse to share the money, but we have continued to defeat them.

“This is a milestone as we are using this to change the entire pedagogy and change our post-education system. The vision is to change the education sector and we want to invite industries to come into this Institution to establish their base. This will not just be a school but also a production center, creating opportunities for practicals, as contractors will use materials from the school.”

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of Imose Technology, Osayi Izedonmwen, noted that the “Center will ensure intensive training of students as it will enable students to become employed. We thank the governor for his educational reforms.”

A student of Benin Technical College, Miss Oluchi Favour China, while hailing the governor, said, “The teaching programme is to begin with a lesson focused on repairs and to be progressed into the production aspect”.
