Obiano Mourns Enyim, Vanguard Journalist

Posted on May 31, 2018

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has expressed his deep condolences on the death of Mr Enyim Enyim, a journalist with Vanguard Newspaper who recently passed away after a brief illness.

Until his death, Enyim was a correspondent covering Anambra State for Vanguard.

In a condolence message to the deceased’s family, the management of Vanguard Newspapers and Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Chapter,
Governor Obiano said that the news of Enyim’s sudden death was sobering and depressing.

‘Every death takes something out of us but it is especially so when the deceased is plucked in the prime of life without warning as in the present case. His sudden death has once more thrown up philosophical questions about the purpose and trajectories of earthly life,’ Governor Obiano noted.

He described the exit of the late journalist as a loss to not just the deceased’s family and friends but to the State and the media at large.

According to him,  ‘Enyim was a notable journalist. He was always trying to keep track of news and events. His bylines were a useful guide to understanding developments in our State. Even when the reports were critical, they were not rendered from a partisan point of view.’

The governor regretted that the lively and outspoken journalist was now being spoken of in the past tense. He noted that his vast potentials had gone untapped with his untimely transition as the late Enyim still had a lot to give to newspaper journalism, adding that those who found his writings a source of information and enlightenment would sorely miss him.

He called on the deceased’s family and relations to bear the loss with the spirit of resignation to God’s will. He urged them to take consolation in the fact that longevity was not the measure of a good life but the sense of fulfillment.

Extending his condolences to the NUJ, the Governor said the best tribute they could pay to the memory of their departed colleague was to stay united and progressive and continue the worthy endeavours they had started with him.
