Ogun Police Debunks Banditry Rumours, Confirms Security Stability Across State

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed widespread social media reports alleging bandit attacks in parts of the state, assuring residents that Ogun remains calm and secure.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babasayi, described the reports of banditry in Ota and Ifo axis as “false and misleading”. He clarified that no bandit attacks, kidnappings, or terrorist activities had occurred in communities such as Oluke, Sango Ota, Ijoko, Atan-Ota, Agbado, and Ifo.
Police operatives were immediately deployed to the mentioned areas to conduct on-the-spot assessments and patrols. The Command’s School Protection Squad also inspected schools including Oluke Community High School and Sango Ota High School, confirming that academic activities continued without disruption.
Authorities expressed concern over the panic caused by unverified information, urging residents to rely on official channels for security updates.
“There is no cause for fear or apprehension,” the statement read, noting that commercial and social activities across the state remain unaffected.
Meanwhile, the Command confirmed the arrest of 38 foreign nationals from Côte d’Ivoire in Kajola-Ilese, Atan-Ota. The group, comprising 19 males and 19 females aged between 25 and 35, was found without valid immigration documents. They claimed to have entered Nigeria for online business activities. The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation.
Police stressed that the arrests were unrelated to banditry or violent crime, warning against attempts to link the incident to false security alerts. The Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring residents of continued patrols and intelligence-led operations.
Residents are advised to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
