The Executive Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, Lagos State, Hon David Olusegun Odunmbaku, has reiterated the effectiveness of the ban on motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada, on all routes within the LCDA as declared by the Lagos State Government.
Hon Odunmbaku, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Bunmi Oluyadi, at the Stakeholders Meeting held within the premises of Council Secretariat, expressed the readiness of the administration to clampdown on defaulters, and also cited the commitments of Government to placate the situations through the provision of alternative means of transportation and establishment of various empowerment initiatives for interested riders.
“As a Government, we are always concerned about the welfare and safety of our people, that’s why we’ve called this meeting to further emphasize our resolution to enforce the State’s directives on Okada, and tackle the teaming security issues in our communities” Oluyadi said.
While giving her remarks, the DPO Alausa Police Division, Shola Omilade Aighoje, reeled out various schemes set aside by the Government to empower okada riders such as the provision of soft loans through collaboration with Ministry of Transportation, skills acquisition and trainings, as well as the provision of alternative means of transportation.
Aighoje expressed that after the initial ban in June, statistics showed that motorcycle-related accidents drastically reduced. Hence, there is need to further strengthen the ban at the affected LGs and LCDAs.
Likewise, as a borderline-LCDA, issues related to the unrestrained influx of foreigners was discussed. It was suggested that adequate measures be put in place to mitigate against such movement and its attendant consequences.
Present at the meeting were representatives of LASTMA, FRSC, VIS, NDLEA, representatives of Okada riders, CDC and CDAs, traditional rulers, DSS, immigration officers, other security officers, Council Manager, Engr. Dele Abayomi and other major stakeholders in the community.
