ONC Appeals To President Tinubu To Restore Democratic Governance In Rivers State

Respected Apex Niger Delta socio-cultural group, Orashi National Congress, ONC, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the urgent need to restore democratic governance in Rivers State.

At the end of a World Press Conference held on Thursday morning, 1st May, 2025, at Omoku Civic Centre, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Orashi National Congress (ONC) issued a communique.

It stated:

APPEAL TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU TO RESTORE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE IN RIVERS STATE

Gentlemen of the Press,

We, the Orashi National Congress, a socio-cultural organization in Orashi Region of Rivers State, which comprises Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas, join other well meaning citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Associations, Civil Society groups, etc. to fault the declaration of the State of Emergency in Rivers State whereby, a democratically elected Governor, Sir Siminalaye Fubara, his Deputy, Prof Mrs. Ngozi Odu and elected State Assembly were suspended.

2. The Orashi People emphasize that the action of Mr. President was a reaction to a malicious falsehood of certain individuals and group of persons to seize the control of Government in Rivers State for personal interest.

3. We state that the state of emergency in Rivers State is taking a great toll on the people, the economy and true democracy, hence the need to suspend the anti-constitutional decision in Rivers State.

4. ⁠That the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State is akin to a coup de’tat on the people of Rivers State and the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

5. The people of Orashi assure Mr. President of their continuous support for the Renewed Hope Agenda if the Federal Government continues to ensure good governance in the country.
