Posted on February 18, 2025
The Orashi National Congress, ONC, has called for the creation of more Local Government areas in the Orashi region, following the recent statement by the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives advocating for administrative restructuring.
The call was made by the President General of the Orashi National Congress, Snr. Comr. Emeni Ibe, who emphasized the need for enhanced political representation and grassroots development within the Orashi region.
According to Ibe, the current Local Government structure does not adequately reflect the population and socio-economic dynamics of the area.
In a recent interview with our correspondent, Ibe stated that Ahoada-East is due for the creation of four additional Local Government areas, followed by Ahoada-West, Onelga, and Abua Odual. He stressed that the expansion would bring government closer to the people, ensuring more effective governance and equitable distribution of resources.
To address this pressing issue, the Orashi National Congress is calling on all stakeholders, including sons and daughters of the region, traditional rulers, and political actors, to attend an extraordinary meeting aimed at strategizing and pushing for the creation of more Local Government areas. The date for this crucial meeting is yet to be announced by the President General.
Snr. Comrade Ibe also emphasized that the ongoing political tensions within the state should not deter the collective pursuit of development for the Orashi people. He urged all stakeholders to put aside personal differences and focus on the common goal of advancing the region’s political and socio-economic interests.
“This is not the time for division. Our strength lies in our unity. Individual differences should be set aside as we pursue this just cause for our people,” Ibe stated.
The Orashi National Congress reiterates its resolute in advocating for the rights and development of the Orashi region. They assured that they are determined to engage with relevant authorities to actualize the demand for more Local Government areas.
