ONC Endorses Senator Banigo For 2nd Term, Seeks Greater Inclusion For Orashi People

Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), led by its President General, Amb. Emeni Ibe, has formally expressed strong support for Distinguished Senator Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, the lawmaker. representing Rivers West Senatorial District, during a courtesy visit held on 17th April, 2026.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Amb. Ibe commended Senator Banigo for her outstanding leadership, describing her as a committed and result-driven public servant whose contributions to human capital development, healthcare improvement, and infrastructural growth across the senatorial district have been impactful, particularly within the Orashi region.

He noted that the Orashi region—comprising Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Abua/Odual, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas—remains a critical part of Rivers West but continues to face developmental challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, youth unemployment, limited healthcare access, and insufficient educational facilities.

Amb. Ibe used the opportunity to reaffirm the loyalty and support of the Orashi people, announcing that the ONC has scheduled a special convention on 26th April, 2026, to formally endorse Senator Banigo for a second term in office.

Highlighting the contributions of the Congress to regional stability, he outlined ongoing initiatives by the ONC, including campaigns against pipeline vandalism, illegal refining activities, cultism, and sustained collaboration with traditional rulers, government authorities, and security agencies. He further emphasized advocacy efforts for the creation of additional local government areas and states.

In her response, Senator Banigo expressed gratitude to the ONC for the endorsement, stating that she was honored to be considered worthy of such support. She commended the Congress for its proactive role in promoting peace and development in the region, particularly its efforts in combating pipeline vandalism and cultism, as well as its support for traditional institutions.

 

The Senator assured the delegation of her continued commitment to the welfare of the Orashi people, promising increased employment opportunities and sustained developmental efforts across the region.

 

The visit concluded on a note of unity and renewed partnership, with both parties reaffirming their dedication to the progress and prosperity of Rivers West Senatorial District.
