ONC Hails Associate Prof. Edwardson Imo’s Appointment As UNIPORT Theatre & Film Studies HOD

Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), has congratulated Associate Professor Edwardson Imo on his appointment as Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Port Harcourt. The Congress described the appointment as a proud moment for the Orashi region and Nigeria’s academic community.

 

In a congratulatory message signed by Ambassador Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, President General of ONC, the Congress said the appointment was a well-deserved recognition of Associate Professor Imo’s outstanding scholarship, exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

 

According to the statement, ONC noted that Associate Prof. Imo has remained one of the finest intellectual ambassadors whose contributions to research, mentorship, cultural scholarship and higher education continue to bring honour to our people.

 

Ambassador Ibe, speaking on behalf of ONC, said: “Your appointment is a proud moment. Your scholarship, humility and dedication have earned you this honour, and we are confident that your leadership will further advance your department and inspire future generations of academics”.

The Department of Theatre and Film Studies at UNIPORT is one of Nigeria’s leading centers for drama, theatre arts, film production, and cultural studies. As Head of Department, Associate Prof. Imo will oversee academic programmes, research initiatives, and mentorship of students in theatre and film. The position is typically rotated among senior academics and is key to shaping curriculum and departmental growth.

ONC is a socio-cultural organization representing communities along the Orashi River basin in Rivers State. The Congress regularly acknowledges indigenes who achieve distinction in academia, public service, and the arts, citing them as role models for youth in the region.
