Notable Niger Delta socio-cultural group, the Orashi National Congress (ONC), led by its President General, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, JP, AP, has congratulated the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, on her decoration with the United Nations Global Icon of Peace and Integrity Award.
In a congratulatory message issued on Monday, Amb. Emeni Ibe described the honour as well-deserved, noting that Prof. Odu’s recognition reflects her consistent commitment to peacebuilding, inclusive governance, and the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Rivers State.
The ONC President General commended the Deputy Governor for her people-centred approach to leadership, particularly her passion for empowering vulnerable groups and strengthening key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and women affairs, which align with global development priorities.
Amb. Ibe further applauded the Governor Siminalayi Fubara–led administration for positioning Rivers State as a beacon of peace, stability, and development, stressing that such recognition on an international platform enhances the state’s image and investor confidence.
According to him, Prof. Odu’s emergence as the first Nigerian and second African woman to receive the prestigious award is a source of pride not only to Rivers State but to the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large, and serves as inspiration to women and young people across the region.
The Orashi National Congress reaffirmed its support for initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence, social justice, and sustainable development, while urging leaders at all levels to emulate Prof. Odu’s dedication to service and humanity.
Amb. Emeni Ibe wished the Deputy Governor continued strength and wisdom as she discharges her responsibilities in the service of Rivers State and the nation.
