Posted on October 22, 2024
In a strong reaction to the recent wave of violence that has engulfed parts of Ahoada East Local Government Area, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, the President General of the Orashi National Congress and National President of the Southern Youth Foundation, has condemned the killings that have taken place within the past 48 hours.
The respected youth leader has called for immediate action from government and security agencies in order to address the deteriorating security situation in the region.
In his statement on behalf of the groups on Tuesday, Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe expressed deep concern over the continued violence, warning that if urgent steps are not taken, the situation could spiral out of control and lead to further loss of lives and displacement of innocent citizens.
“The killings in Ahoada East LGA are not only tragic but a clear indication that the region is in dire need of security intervention. We cannot continue to lose our people to senseless violence while the authorities turn a blind eye,” he said.
While calling on both the state and federal governments to come to the aid of the affected communities, Amb. Comrade Ibe highlighted the importance of swift and decisive action to restore peace.
“We urge all levels of government to immediately intervene before this crisis worsens. The people of Ahoada East deserve protection, and their lives should not be taken lightly.”
The youth leader also addressed the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, urging him to prioritize the investigation into these killings and to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
“We call on the Commissioner of Police to urgently look into this matter. Those responsible for this bloodshed must be identified and made to face the full wrath of the law. The people need to see that justice will be served without delay,” Amb. Comrade Ibe asserted.
In addition to security concerns, Amb. Comrade Ibe called for calm among the affected communities, urging residents not to take matters into their own hands but to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in finding lasting solutions to the insecurity plaguing the area.
The recent killings have sparked widespread fear and tension within the communities, with local leaders and youth groups expressing outrage over the perceived lack of adequate security measures. This development adds to the ongoing challenges in the region, which has seen an uptick in violent crime and other security issues in recent times.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes are now on the response of the government and security forces to ensure that peace and stability are restored to the area.
The Southern Youth Foundation, under the leadership of Amb. Comrade Emeni Ibe, has been at the forefront of advocating for the safety and well-being of the youth and communities in the South-South region, including Rivers State. Similarly, the Orashi National Congress, a body representing the interests of the Orashi people, has consistently called for improved governance, security, and development in the region.
The call for justice and swift government intervention in Ahoada East LGA reflects the urgency of the situation, and the hope remains that concrete actions will be taken to prevent further bloodshed.
