Orashi National Congress To Hold Sensitization Workshop On Referendum For Creation Of Additional LGAs

Posted on August 11, 2025

The Orashi National Congress, ONC, has announced plans to host a sensitization workshop aimed at mobilizing public support for a referendum on the creation of additional Local Government Areas (LGAs) from the Orashi region of Rivers State.
The event, scheduled for Wednesday, 27th August, 2025, will take place at the Information Centre, Ahoada Town, Ahoada East LGA by 11:00 AM prompt.
According to the Convener and Host, Amb. Emeni Ibe (JP, AP), who is also the President General of ONC, the workshop is part of an ongoing advocacy to address the growing administrative, developmental, and political representation needs of the Orashi people.
“The Orashi region has witnessed population growth, socio-economic expansion, and increased infrastructural demands over the years. The creation of additional LGAs will not only bring governance closer to the people but also ensure fairer distribution of resources and better political representation,” Amb. Ibe stated.
The workshop will feature presentations from legal experts, community leaders, youth representatives, and civil society organizations on the constitutional process and practical steps towards achieving a referendum for LGA creation.
The ONC is inviting traditional rulers, political stakeholders, women leaders, youth groups, religious bodies, and the general public to participate in the dialogue.
The call for additional LGAs in Orashi has been a long-standing demand, with proponents arguing that it is essential for equitable development, security, and effective administration
