Osun 2026: Osun Youths Want Oyetola As APC Gubernatorial Candidate

Posted on April 20, 2024
Osun Youths, under the aegis of Congress of Progressive Youth (COPY), have urged all genuine members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the State to make the immediate past State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, as the party candidate during the governorship election slated to hold in the year 2026, saying that the decision would restore the party in the State to the path of honour of its glory and as well return the State to the path of good governance.
While declaring their unwavering support, they rooted for the candidacy of Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola or any person presented by Oyetola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate.
In a statement issued and signed by the COPY’s Secretary, Comrade Lekan Ibrahim (Legacy) and made available to newsmen on Thursday, the youths disclosed their reflection on the past governorship election in 2022, where Oyetola experienced defeat on the APC platform.
COPY Chief acknowledged the challenges posed by anti-party activities within the progressive fold led by the former Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, saying that despite this setback,Oyetola’s exemplary performance as Governor during his first term garnered significant support and admiration from the people of Osun State.
According to the group; “Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola’s tenure was marked by remarkable achievements in various sectors including Mineral Resources Development, Education, Infrastructure, Primary Health Care, the Osun Health Insurance Scheme, food support for the vulnerable and agricultural development. He demonstrated love, support and acceptance by the people, despite legal challenges, underscore his popularity and effectiveness as a leader”.
“As the 2026 election approaches, COPY firmly believes that Oyetola’s reelection presents the fastest route for youth empowerment and good governance participation. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria grants Oyetola the right to contest for another four-year term, and COPY sees this as an opportunity for youth to progressively take charge of governance, aligning with global trends.”
“We advocate for a Christian youth from either Osun West or Osun East as the running mate to Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, to ensure a balanced representation and embrace a paradigm shift in leadership.”
Comrade Ibrahim further stated the group, Copy, is committed to mobilize support for the APC across all the constituencies in the State by complementing the efforts of the party leadership under the able guidance of the State Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, extending a vote of confidence to the party leadership at all levels, from the state level down to the Local Government areas, wards, and units of the State.
“We call on the people of Osun State to reject the incumbent, whose unpopular policies and extravagant projects have failed to drive progress but instead lead to capital flight from the State. It is time for a renewed vision and pragmatic leadership of Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola.”
“We also commend the party for its proactive approach in setting up committees tasked with the responsibility to reconcile, appeal, and discipline rebel elements and moles within the party. We urge the party leadership to take decisive action to quarantine those who have strayed from the party’s principles, while also providing an avenue for genuine reconciliation.Politics is indeed a game of numbers, and it is imperative that the party remains united and focused on its objectives, ensuring that all members work towards the common goal of advancing the welfare and progress of Osun State.”
“COPY stands united in our support for Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola’s candidacy come 2026 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State, believing in his capacity to lead with integrity, vision, and dedication to the welfare of the people”, the group submitted.
