Ozo Idezuna Pleads With Gov Sanwo-Olu To Assist Apongbon Fire Victims

Posted on April 2, 2022

The Convener of Eko Onibaje New Yam and Beach Festival, Ibeju, Lekki Lagos, Ozo Nwoye Chiedu Augustine Idezuna (Ezemmuo Afrika), has appealed to the State Government to provide financial support to the traders, whose shops were destroyed at Apongbon Market in Lagos Island, by providing alternative space for them so that that can have meals on the tables for their families.

The founder of the organization, which is set up to promote peaceful coexistence among all the ethnic nationalities in the country, noted that the Apongbon fire victims had been trading in the market for over 20 years.

According to him, the traders are law abiding citizens with their Lagos resident Identity cards as well as contributing to the revenue of the state by paying their taxes as and when due.

“This is why we are crying to the Lagos State Government on their behalf be compensated” he said.

It would be recalled that on the 22nd March, 2022, that fire gutted the market as a result of fuel scarcity, which resulted in fuel hoarding that led to the fire disaster.

“We want to beg the Governor to look at the condition of the affected victim for financial support and relocation, Eko Onibaje group knows that you are the people’s governor. We stood and mobilize all our people to always stand with your able party.  That is why we are begging on behalf of the affected victims for financial support and relocation” Ezemmuo pleaded.

Ezemmuo said he stood with the Governor on the position of the market that it is highly dangerous but will continue to plead that instead of the governor to push those affected victims away, they should be supported financial and relocated to other places as most of those traders had been in that market for the past 30 years and according to him it will be bad if they are not supported.
