Pastor Loses N.5m To Man In Land Purchase Scam
CHUKA UBAH
A clergy man, Pastor J.P. Nwabunwa, may not have seen the danger in the spiritual realm after he reportedly paid N550,000 to one Samson Adeniyi to purchase a parcel of land in Lagos but he ended up bolting away with his money.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos where the transaction took place between the parties.
Adeniyi was said to have approached Pastor Nwabunwa that he had a half plot of land he wanted to sell and asked him to pay the money in order to take possession. The pastor fell into his trap because the price Adeniyi had offered was very cheap and affordable unknown to him that it was a scam. After Pastor Nwabunwa had paid the said amount of money to Adeniyi, he waited for the land documents in order to take possession but the wait was in vain.
It was gathered that Adeniyi obtained the money and used it to solve his personal problem without give the pastor the land documents as he had promised.
The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was trailed. He was later arrested and detained at the police station for interrogation.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that during interrogation, Adeniyi reportedly confessed that he had no land to sell and he collected the money from him to solve his pressing problems. The police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for fraud and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, did not oppose his being granted bail but asked the Court to give a date for hearing for the police to prove the matter.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted Adeniyi bail in the sum of N600,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 20th May, 2019.
