PDP Aspirant Initiates Poverty Alleviation For Constituents

Over 100 residents of Lagos Island have benefited from the ongoing poverty alleviation program initiated by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly aspirant in the area, Princess Oluwaseun Joy Dosunmu.

The beneficiaries who were enrolled into the programmes free of charge were trained on different vocations like catering services, soap and insecticide making, bead making, computer training, fashion designing, hair styling among others.

Princess Dosunmu, the House of Assembly aspirant (Lagos Island Constituency1), also gave out some amounts of money to the beneficiaries after the one month programme.

According to her, the money was her own contributions towards the sum that will be required by the graduates of the programme to purchase equipments and be able establish themselves.
Speaking on the motive behind the initiative, Princess Dosunmu said that she was saddened by the pitiable conditions of people she saw while trying to reach out to residents over her ambition and felt that they should not be overlooked.

“I discovered that many people were jobless, not that they were lazy but they couldn’t find job to do after they had finished their education. The scenario disturbed me a lot and I woke up one day to use all the available means within my capacity to assist” she disclosed.
She said, “I secured a venue on the Island, invited and negotiated with some experts on the courses. I  printed out forms which were distributed to each ward in the Lagos Island Constituency1. The turnout was a big surprise for me because university graduates, housewives, male and female, youths and old, also people from Costituency11 enrolled for the programme”.
Prince Dosunmu said that the programme will be a continuous one because her dream was to see everybody engaged in one thing or the other. She remarked that devil makes use of idle hands; many youths had turned to political thugs or motor garage touts just to find something to eat and take care of their families. She said that she believed that when they learn a trade, they will not be easily convinced to join bad gangs. She posited that her priority was to make life easy for residents of Lagos Island by making them self reliant if elected.
