Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested a middle-aged man, who reportedly attempted to commit suicide.

According to Adekunle Ajisebutu, Police Public Relations Officer’s statement on Saturday, he gave the identity of the man as Akinlolu Ajayi, 54, an employee of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC).

Mr. Ajayi, a resident of No.1, Owodunni Street, Oworonsoki, was seen on the Third Mainland Bridge trying to jump into the lagoon at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront.

The anti-crime patrol team of the Bariga Police Division on a routine patrol of the area rescued and took him into protective custody.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, appealed to members of the public not to take their own lives no matter the challenges.

The Police boss warned that such a condemnable act is not only morally wrong but also criminal.

“The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and subsequent prosecution”, Adekunle Ajisebutu added.
