Police operatives from the Lagos State Command have foiled attempts by vandals to steal hand rail protectors mounted on the 3rd Mainland bridge, arrested one of the suspects and recovered 28 aluminium rails already removed as exhibits during the operation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 16th September, 2024, when the hoodlums went to steal the rails.
One of the suspects, Yakubu Yusuf, was arrested and detained at the station, where he is currently undergoing interrogation over his alleged involvement in the vandalising of the rails.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed that the suspect is in custody while the Police were hunting for his accomplices now at large.
He stated that Police detectives from the Onikan Division of the Lagos State Police Command arrested the 28-year old Yakubu Yusuf for allegedly vandalising hand rails on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.
“On September 16, 2024, at 6.42am, the DPO in charge of Onikan received information that hoodlums were vandalising railings on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.”
“The DPO led a team of anti-crime patrol men to the scene, where one suspect, Yakubu Yusuf (28), was arrested.
About 21 bars of aluminium railings already vandalised from the bridge were recovered from the suspect.”
“Other members of his gang took to their heels on sighting the patrol team. Policemen from the division are currently on the trail of the fleeing suspects.”
He stated that the suspect will be charged before the Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State after the conclusion of investigations by the Police.
