A 37-year old Police man, Joseph Oriyomi, who gunned down a 45-year old housewife, Mrs. Tomilorun Obasa, in Lagos has been arrested and charged before the Court for murder.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Chief Magistrates’Court in Ebute Meta, Lagos, on Monday ordered the now dismissed Oriyomi to be remanded in prison custody over the alleged offence.
The embattled Oriyomi allegedly shot a housewife while dispersing youths during a communal clash between Ilaje and Ajah, in Lagos. He was arrested, dismissed and arraigned in Court for the alleged offence.
Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, who did not take Oriyomi’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
The Magistrate ordered the Police to duplicate the case file and send to the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice.
Olatunji adjourned the case until 27th February, 2020, for the report of the DPP to be available.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on December 31, 2019, at 3pm, in Ajah Area of Lagos.
Adebayo alleged that during the protest, Olatunji fatally gunned down Mrs. Temilorun Obasa, 45, in a bid to disperse the crowd.
The defendant may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP’s report finds him culpable and recommends that he should be tried for murder. He may spend several years in prison or be hanged if he is tried and found guilty.
