Police Officers Arrested Over Killing Of Three Victims At Makoko

Some police officers have been arrested and detained at the State Command over the clash between land grabbers and members of the Lagos State Ministry of Land and Environment that resulted in three casualties.

The incident happened at Makoko in Yaba area of Lagos, which led to casualties and many were said to have suffered various degrees of injuries.

The number of officers involved in the clash was not disclosed by the police as at the time of filing this report.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal has also ordered full investigation into the cause of the crisis which involved his officers and the suspected land grabbers.This was confirmed by CP Edgal and said that the officers who went there acted in self defence.

However, he said that following a petition from the community he had ordered for full investigation so that the truth will be revealed. He said that the officers involved had been brought to the Command and their leader had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigations.

The CP also explained that the men from Lagos State Task force on land grabbers assisted by officers of the Nigerian Police Force were also invited by the Command over the incident. He said that the assignment was to investigate the activities of the land grabbers and the attack at Ilaje community of Makoko in Yaba to find out the root causes of the violence which recorded three casualties.

He further explained that the high powered investigations will look at the roles played by all parties involved in the violence. He assured that the outcome of the investigation will be made public and any person found culpable will be prosecuted in the interest of justice.

It was reported the clash that happened on 10th May, 2018, in the area would have spread but for the prompt intervention of the police and the matter was brought under control.
