Police Officers Stoned Over Alleged Intimidation

It was indeed a nasty experience some police officers attached to Itire Division, Lagos, will not forget in a hurry as some aggrieved youths in the area attacked them with stones.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the incident happened on 27th June, 2018, at about 10pm at Itire Police Division, Lagos, where the suspects invaded the station to attack officers.
It was confirmed at the station that some residents stormed had the station with stones and bottles which they reportedly threw at the police officers while calling them unprintable names.
The youths alleged that they were being harassed, intimidated and extorted from by some of the officers on a daily basis. They were said to have rioted at the station and caused some damage before the police applied reasonable force and repelled them.
The police had tried to maintain peace, protect lives and properties in the area which some criminal elements and suspected cultists were said not to be happy about. Having put a check on their illegal activities in the area, they mobilized themselves to attack the police officers.
One of the suspected leaders, Tunde Asaba, was later arrested. He was charged to court for allegedly mobilizing an unlawful assembly to riot, throw stones and bottles at the police station.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momah, did not oppose his bail condition but informed the court that the other suspects were still at large.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kunenje granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter has been adjourned till 27th July, 2018.
