Police Repel Pipeline Vandals, Recover Tanker At Ijegun

The Isheri Oshun Police Division repelled the plan of the suspected pipeline vandals in Lagos who went to break the NNPC pipes to steal petroleum products.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened in Ijegun area of Lagos where the pipes were located.
It was gathered that the group of vandals went to the area at night, broke the pipes and loaded the products to escape.
However, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Rafiu Akinlade, got the information, mobilized his officers and personally led the operation.
When the vandals discovered that they will not overpower the fire power of the officers led by the DPO, Akinlade, they abandoned the tanker with the product and escaped. The police reportedly recovered some of the machines they used to break the pipes to steal products.
No arrest had been made yet but the police was able to recover the tanker truck and moved it to Area M, Idimu Command, as exhibit while the police were said to have commenced full investigation to uncover the owner of the truck and the suspects involved in the bunkering.
The residents of Ijegun commended the efforts of the police for daring to challenge the activities of the vandals. According to some residents, that was the first time the police has come out forcefully to repel the vandals who endangered their lives because the breaking of the pipes in the area which might cause outbreak of fire.
When our correspondent visited the police station to confirm the incident, the DPO was not available. However, sources at the station confirmed the incident and referred the reporter to Area M Command for further information. However, the truck was seen at Area M Command but the suspects were still at large as no arrest had been made so far.
