Melody 107.7FM, a brand new radio station to give listeners the full scope on living their best life, commenced operations in Lagos Friday 1 December.

The new multi-million naira station with the state-of-the-art equipment is located in the bustling suburb of Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. It is the brainchild of the renowned clergy and entrepreneur, Prophet Samuel Adebayo Ojo, popularly known as “Baba Authority”.

Speaking with newsmen at the pre-launch briefing in Lagos, Prophet Ojo said the newly built radio station is not a Christian or religious radio.

“This is a secular radio for everybody. This is not a spiritual medium but pure business. You know I am also a media man as a televangelist who interacts with people daily and passes information to them especially by preaching hope to them. You also know that as an Ibadan man, we know the value of words,” said the popular pastor who also double as the President, Freedom Apostolic Revival Ministry (FARIM) and founder of popular prayer mountain, Ori-Oke Ogo situated in Ibadan, Oyo State.

With so many tested hands and seasoned professionals in the broadcast industry already on the employ of the station, Melody 107.7FM is out to be a one-stop entertainment and lifestyle radio station.

“We will provide contents designed to entertain and elevate our listeners and provide them with current news, entertainment and lifestyle. We educate, entertain and elevate while encouraging social interaction among the people,” explained the foremost man of God who has his daily prayer program on several radio stations in South West and South South of Nigeria.

The amiable clergy added that his passion for touching people’s life and creating opportunities led him to the projects. His objective is to touch every nook and cranny of the south west and already, he is about to complete other radio stations in Ibadan, Abeokuta and Ibafo (both in Ogun state).

On whether he got the millions of naira he used in building the new radio station through tithes and offerings, Pastor Ojo said: “I am an entrepreneur who is into several businesses that fetch me clean money. I am also into real estate, selling fabrics, gold and so on. Any man of God that says God instructed him not to work is a liar and thief. I am saying this in public.”

The Ibadan-born cleric boasted, “I don’t depend on my church money. I am saying this in public, I don’t collect a dime from my church’s branches nationwide but instead, I know how much I spend to assist my members. I can’t count the number of my members who are under our scholarship. As we are talking, I am still looking for money to fund the visas of some of my members who want to travel out of the country. When God has given you a house and car, what should be your next priority is how to make positive impacts in the lives of people.”

On what would differentiate Melody FM from the scores of radio stations in Lagos state, the cleric said “We are doing all programmes in Yoruba, English, Hausa and Igbo and we are purely entertainment oriented radio stations. We want to make people happy especially through music because I love making people laugh. In fact, if you sit with me for 1 hour and you don’t laugh, I won’t associate with you because I am very funny. We have a lot of unique programmes which I want to keep as a top secret for now,” Pastor Ojo summed.
