Posted on July 30, 2024
The All Progressives Congress, APC United States Chapter, has called on Nigerians to engage the government in dialogue rather than protest.
In a statement issued on Monday July 29, 2024, and signed by the National Chairman Professor Adesegun Labinjo and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ismaila Maigyara, the Chapter expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his team and advised Nigerians especially the youth to be patient with the President in his efforts to reposition the country for a sustainable economic development and growth.
“Nothing is more democratic than citizens echoing their frustrations over high cost of living . Indeed, the essential element of good democracy is the freedom to organize and present grievances to the government for action and peaceful resolution. There is no harm in young Nigerians trying to address what they feel as challenges facing them and the country, and demand dividends of democracy but they must do that peacefully and engage in intellectual and substantive dialogue”. APC-USA stated.
APC-USA Chapter called on Nigerian youths to be patient and vigilant, and not allow themselves to be used by defeated and disgruntled politicians to take over the spirit of their agitation and demand, and disrupt the peaceful coexistence of the country. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a listening president! The President listens to the yawning of Nigerians and he continues to put all the necessary structures in place to address the issues that hinder national growth and development”.
The United States Chapter of APC said that the removal of fuel subsidy was a necessary and a thoughtful plan to give Nigeria a better deal after numerous years of abuse and mismanagement. The Chapter said that Nigerians had consistently pushed and asked for the removal of fuel subsidy, and celebrated the removal by the President, and that this action was taken with full awareness of Nigerians and was by popular demand.
APC-USA Chapter called on all Nigerians to exercise patience as the reforms being implemented by President Tinubu are necessary to ensure lasting economic growth, stability and prosperity for the country. The Chapter said that they understand the right of the citizens to protest but that the planned protest is ill-advised at this time as it may be hijacked by misguided elements in the country. APC-USA said that the President and his team are doing their best to reposition the country for greatness and make life better for the citizens. The Chapter further stated that the reforms will have attendance growing pain, but the country and the citizenry will reap the benefits in not too long in the future.
APC-USA cautioned that Nigeria is the only country we have and it behooves on all Nigerians to contribute meaningful and positive ideas geared towards nation building, and not engage in any activities that can potentially pull the country down.
