As the holy month of Ramadan approaches and Nigerians are thronging the markets for food items to commence the annual Islamic fasting, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, had called on food item traders in Somolu markets to make their commodities to be affordable to ease the pain people might be going through.
The Chairman made the statement in a meeting with his Special Adviser on Market Matters, Hon. Razak Tajudeen, who assured the LG Boss of sanity and normalcy in markets across Somolu Local Government Area.
The Council Mayor also assured the traders that he will communicate to the Police chiefs in Somolu jurisdiction to be friendly with vehicles that are conveying food items into Somolu as reported by many traders.
He added that if the vehicles conveying pepper, fish, plantain, vegetables, fruits, yam and other food items are not delayed by law enforcement agencies, their prices will be minimal to the traders as this will tell on the price of the items to the buyers and consumers.
However, the Chairman warned drivers to be law abiding. He also admonish traders to shun street trading as trading of food items should be in the markets.
“If food items are affordable, people will buy more and even give out as gifts during and after Ramadan”, the LG boss said.
