An aspirant into the House of Representatives for the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Kogi State, in the 2023 general elections, Engr Michael Obanewo, has undertaken to pay the fees of 30 indigent students of public higher institutions for the coming academic session.

According to Obanewo, in a letter to ward chairmen in the constituency, the 30 indigent students will cover the 30 wards in the federal constituency and a mark of his token for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Obanewo, a telecommunications engineer, is better known for his philanthropic gestures through human capital development, job creation and community infrastructural development spanning the length and breath of the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency.

Obanewo made this known in a letter to the ward leaders.

The letter reads: “I write to request that each Ward in the Federal Constituency provide ONE (1) student of any public higher institution who is finding it difficult to pay school fees for this coming academic session.

“This is my Christmas Package to each Ward. I will be paying school fees for 30 indigent students in public institutions.

“I have made a wide consultation on what will prosper and remain sustainable and I have been largely advised to consider and implement the above intervention which I believe will have a lasting impact on generational welfare rather than and without prejudice to immediate consumption.

“My Foundation (Engr. Michael Idowu Obanewo Charity Foundation) will handle this. It will pay directly into the beneficiary’s school account and will in turn, handover the receipt to the selected student for further registration in their respective schools. A form has been design to get the details of the beneficiaries.

“Our collective decision must be for the common good of all and not just a direct benefit of one. The benefit must transcend beyond current needs extending to generations after, where everyone will have hope of a certain future.

“My mission is to empower the young people to be independent and to be able to care for the aged. Human Empowerment, Development & Inclusion is my Mission.”

Engr Obanewo, an indigene of Ayetoro Gbede, is one of the top contenders for the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency for the 2023 general elections.
