Residents Cry Out Over Outrageous Billing By EKEDC

Posted on April 9, 2019

Residents of Bamgbade, Ibadan and Kingdom Hall Streets in White House area of Ilado in Olorunda Local Council Development Area of Lagos, have sent a ‘save our soul’ message to relevant authorities about the indiscriminate and estimated billings by Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC.

Speaking on behalf of residents, the Public Relations Officer of Landlords Association, Mr. Augustine Menekwu, said that the residents have been very cooperative despite the uncooperative attitude from the staff of EKEDC and personnel.
Mr. Menekwu stressed that power is only supplied for thirty to forty five minutes daily, yet EKEDC bring highly exorbitant bills without recourse to the plight of residents and consumers.

He lamented that if the issue is not addressed in good time, residents might be forced to take their destinies into their hands as their calmness should not be mistaken for stupidity and gullibility.

Another resident, Mr. Emma Williams, who disclosed that despite the epileptic power supply, EKEDC still brings about ten thousands Naira monthly. Mr. Williams noted that at times throughout a month EKEDC might not supply power for more than three hours and that will not stop them from bringing what he called crazy bills, alleging that the electricity distribution company is another fraud and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, must look into their activities.

Contributing, another resident, Mr. Ademola Ogunlowo, said that the only solution to the problem is the provision of pre-paid meters as most residents were tired of estimated billings, noting that if pre-paid meters are not supplied, residents may be forced to take to the street in protest or stop the activities of EKEDC officials in the area.
