The atmosphere in Oba, Idemili area of Anambra State on Wednesday 7th January, 2026, was one of celebration, gratitude, glitz and glamour, as one of their sons, Rev. Fr. Sanctus Kodilinye Ibe, marked his Priestly Silver Jubilee.
The Silver Jubilee Celebration, described by many as a well-earned recognition of his service to God and humanity and amiable personality, began with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Okuzu, Oba, which was attended by huge number of Catholic priests, the religious, prominent figures from across Anambra State’s political, business, traditional and civic circles.
After the Mass, In his note of appreciation, Rev, Fr. Sanctus thanked all for their show of love, support and solidarity, stating that: “the outpouring of goodwill is not taken for granted and will continue to inspire deeper commitment to service to God and humanity”.
The Silver Jubilee soiree moved to the celebrant’s family house at Okuzu, Oba —where the reception unfolded under beautifully arranged luxury tents reserved for the respected clergy, dignitaries, and various groups.
At the heart of the grand reception, the Silver Jubilee Celebrant — Rev. Fr. Sanctus—  became a radiant highlight of the afternoon; stepping out in a stylish red traditional outfit, warmly greeting dignitaries and attendees with grace and poise as he moved around acknowledging family, friends, women groups, and community based organizations among others.
One of the most symbolic moments came when Rev. Father Gallant, as he is fondly called by mates, hit the dance floor in response to the melodious rendition by the live band. Family, friends and numerous well-wishers joined him, celebrating not just the milestone but his journey of sacrifice, service and humility.
The rich attendance of the Silver Jubilee Celebration, which also had the Igwe of Oba, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Sir Engr. A. C. Emelobe (Ezeokpoko II), was a true testament to genuine appreciation of his personality, value to the Oba community and cherised relationships as friends across Nigeria and in the diaspora came through to celebrate with him.
As the evening wound down, the celebration remained warm and spirited — a perfect blend of accomplishment, gratitude, and the unmistakable bond the Ibe Family shares with the people — as they had more than enough to eat and drink, while enjoying good music. At the end, it was indeed a grand Silver Jubilee anniversary in Oba and a time to reflect on 25 years of service for Rev. Fr. Sanctus Ibe.
It will be recalled that Rev. Fr. Sanctus Kodilinye Ibe was ordained on 26th May, 2000, by Most Reverend William H. Bullock, the third Bishop of Madison as a priest of the Diocese of Madison at Saint Raphael Cathedral. Prior to his ordination, Rev. Fr. Sanctus had been guided by the Holy Spirit and his Priestly journey, which started at Saint Paul’s Seminary, Ukpor, had through the Church’s wisdom taken him to All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, to Saint Pius Seminary, Akwukwu, to Saint Joseph’s Seminary, Ikot Ekpene and through the Apostolic works.
After his time at the Archdiocesan Secretariat in Onitsha, Anambra State, the young Sanctus followed God’s prompting to the United States of America in September, 1996, where he joined the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin. It was there he entered Saint Mary’s of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein, Illinois culminating in his ordination as a priest of the Diocese of Madison.
Speaking briefly to our correspondent, a visibly elated Rev. Fr. Sanctus said, “With a heart overflowing with gratitude, I thank everyone who has joined me today to celebrate this very special milestone in my life and ministry”.
“This occasion is to mark twenty five years since I was ordained to the sacred priesthood – twenty five years of walking with Christ as a priest, serving His people and witnessing His abiding presence through the changing seasons of my life.”
“My deepest gratitude begins with my deceased parents, High Chief Sanctus C. Ibe (Obibuenyi) and Mrs. (Lady) Gloria S. Ibe, whose love, discipline and faith laid the foundation for all that I am today. Though they are no longer with us, their example of faith continues to inspire me daily.”
“I thank the rest of my family for their huge support and love. I deeply appreciate the Fatherly inspiration and support from Bishop Donald J. Hying. I’ll also single out for mention Rev. Fr. Paul Ugo Arinze, Chief Don Okafor (Ezechijindu), my mates who are also celebrating their Priestly Silver Jubilee, Very Rev. Fr. Mike Onwuemelie CSSP and others who mentored, inspired, encouraged and have made my Priestly journey a memorable one. I’m grateful to God for bringing them my way.”
