Rivers State Govt Reaffirms Commitment To Strengthening Borders Security & Cross-Border Cooperation

Posted on June 16, 2026
Rivers State Government says it recognizes the critical role that border management plays in the safety, stability, and economic well-being of the nation.
The State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, stated this while speaking at a one-day high-level national workshop organized by the National Boundary Commission at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Continental Hotel, Abuja, on Monday, 15th June 2026.
She noted that, as a gateway state, Rivers understands the weight of responsibility that comes with guarding strategic entry points, protecting internal boundaries, and fostering peaceful coexistence among border communities. She added that this is why the state aligns itself with the adoption of modern technologies, strategies, and mechanisms aimed at strengthening cross-border collaboration.
According to her, border security has gone beyond physical barriers alone and now involves intelligence gathering, technology, cooperation among agencies, and the active involvement of communities living along borderlines.
“This workshop could not have come at a more appropriate time in our nation’s history, since the focus is  on enhancing national security, strengthen resilience in border communities, and promoting effective cross-border cooperation, which speaks directly to the realities we face today,” she further stressed.
Prof. Odu, who emphasized the importance of continued collaboration among federal institutions, state boundary committees, security agencies, and traditional leaders, commended the Director-General and management of the National Boundary Commission for organizing the workshop.
