RMD, Dakore Akande Emerge AMAA 2018’s Best In Kigali

Seasoned Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Dakore Egbuson-Akande have on Saturday night emerged best at the 14th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held in Kigali, Rwanda.

While RMD emerged the overall Best Actor in a Leading Role, for his role in Cross Roads, Dakore was adjudged the Best Actress in a Leading Role for ‘Isoken’.

Elated Dakore who was absent from the ceremony took to her Instagram page to real out her appreciative message: “Oh my goodness! Thank you God!… I just WON Best Actress in a Leading role at the prestigious AMAA awards in Kigali for my role in #Isokenthemovie

“It can only be God…I’m on set so I was unable to attend, thank you SO much to @amaawards_ for this amazing honour! I also want to appreciate YOU for supporting my work, I don’t take it for granted….

“Big shout out to our director/producer @jade.osiberu my co-stars @lydiaforson (who graciously received our 3 awards!) @funkejenifaakindele @adedamee@marc_rhys @iamjosephbenjamin because it takes great synergy to create a character…Congratulations to my fellow nominees and winners..”

During the award ceremony held inside Intare Conference Arena in Kigali, veteran actress, Joke Silva also bagged the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for her character in ‘Potato Potahto’.

Best First Feature film by a Director: Michael Mathew- Five Fingers of Marseille

Best Director: Frank Rajah Arase- In my country (Nigeria).

Best Young/ Promising Actor: Amine Lansari – The Blessed Vost (Les Bienheureux)

Award For Achievement In Cinematography: ‪Five Fingers For Marseille

Award For Achievement In Sound: ‪Hotel Called Memory

Award For Achievement In Editing: ‪Lucky Specials

Award For Achievement In Costume Design: Isoken

Award For Best Diaspora Narrative Feature:‪ Angelica (Puerto Rico)

Award For Best Diaspora Documentary: ‪Barrows: Freedom Fighter (Barbados) ‪

Michael Anyiam Osigwe Award For Best Film By An African Living Abroad: ‪Alexandra – Nigeria/US

Ousmane Sembene Award For Best Film In An African Language: Five Fingers For Marseilles – South Africa

Award For Best Documentary: Uncertain Future – Burundi

Efere Ozako Award For Best Short Film: Tikitat Soulima – Morocco

Jubril Mailafia Award For Best Animation: Belly Flop – South Africa

AMAA was established in 2005, aimed at facilitating the development and relevance of African film and cinema by providing a reward & recognition platform for film makers on the continent.

The Awards is the most prestigious award in Africa, showcasing and rewarding great talents in the film industry.

It has since become the most – hungered after – event in African movie world.
