CYRIACUS IZUEKWE

Barely few days after some armed robbers were arrested for burgling MTN installation and stealing back up power batteries in the Badagry area of Lagos, another set of robbers have done almost the same thing to Airtel Nigeria in another area.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the robbers struck early this morning at about 1.30am at the Airtel installation located at Butali Street in Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, where they stole some back up batteries.
Police source said that the robbers went to the place, carted away 24 pieces of back up batteries and attempted to escape.
However, while they were escaping, they were accosted by the police, and they abandoned the items while most of them escaped.
But the police were able to pursue one of the suspects, Tunde Hassan, arrested and detained him at the police station while others managed to escape.
The police did not state if the items were recovered from the suspect as exhibits and the whereabout of the vehicle used for the operation.
The suspect, Hassan, was charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, did not oppose his being granted bail but asked the court to give the bail condition that will enable the defendant to come for trial in the interest of justice.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 24th September, 2018.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the robbers may have focused their attention on back up batteries as it was said that there were buyers waiting to pick the items from them at give away prices at the Oshodi Shopping complex in Lagos.
