Sales Manager Remanded In Prison Over Alleged Stealing Employer’s N32.2m

A 25-year old Sales Manager with a Lagos-based Company, Olatunbosun Olanrewaju has been arrested by the Police at the Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island and charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N32.2 million belonging to his employer, Mr. Victor Ibe, within eight months of securing employment.

Police alleged that the complainant entrusted goods valued at N32.2 million in Olanrewaju’s care to sell and remit the proceeds into his (Ibe) account but he sold the goods and allegedly diverted the money to his personal account and fled.

Nemesis, however, caught up with the defendant when the complainant audited his stocks and discovered that goods worth N32.2 million was missing.

He then reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO incharge of Adeniji Adele Division, Lagos Island who swiftly directed his men to fish out the suspect.

The Police team swung into action and arrested the defendant through intelligence gathering and tracking at a hideout in Lagos.

After investigation by SGT. Abraham Friday and his team, the defendants was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island on a two count bordering on fraud and stealing.

Police prosecuting Counsel, Inspector Ishola Samuel told the Court in the charge marked TB/54/2025 that the defendant committed the offence between August 2024 and 14 April 2025 at 23, Princess Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.

Samuel informed the Court that the defendant betrayed the trust reposed in him by his employer as a Sales Manager, sold his goods and converted the money to his personal use instead of remitting the money into his employer’s account.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate A.A Paul granted him N1 million bail with two surties in like sum.

Paul adjourned the case till 27 May, 2025 for mention and ordered that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
