Security Guard Arraigned For Allegedly Burgling Shop & Carting Away N40M Goods

A 43-year-old security guard, Alfred Omogege, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations of burgling a shop at Balogun Market and carting away goods valued at N40M.

The charge sheet marked C/E/21/2026 was filed by the Commissioner of Police with Alfred Omogege as the defendant

According to the document, the alleged incident occurred on 28th April, 2026 at about 6:30pm at No. 8, Koseh Street, Balogun Market, Lagos State.

In Count I, the defendant and others at large were alleged to have conspired to commit felony, to wit house breaking and stealing, contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count II alleged that while the defendant was on duty as a security guard, he and others at large broke and entered the shop of one Tianyi Miao Andy with intent to commit felony. The offence is cited under Section 309 (1) (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count III states that the defendant and others at large allegedly stole women’s hair weavon valued at Forty Million Naira, property of Tianyi Miao Andy. The charge cites Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The complainant in the matter was listed as Tianyi Miao Andy. His contact information and the address of the shop were included in the court filing.

The case was handled by Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja. SP Banti Adamu is named as O/C of the squad, while Inspector Ajayi Olalekan and Anyanwu Ugochukwu were also listed on the charge sheet.

During proceedings, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.

The prosecutor, SP Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court for a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the allegations.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail with two sureties who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment. The matter was adjourned for mention and the defendant was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

Legal experts note that under Nigerian law, a charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
