Posted on March 12, 2024
The lawmaker representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Victor Umeh, has called for an improved welfare for women considering the significant role they play in the sustenance of the country and shaping of the society.
Umeh, who is the Chairman of Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, recently appointed member of Pan-African Parliament, made the call when he felicitated with women on the International Women’s Day.
The statement read in full: “Empower a woman, empower a community. This statement is not only literally correct but a knowledge that when fully implemented, would help rid the society of negative vices such as youth restiveness, insecurity and hunger.
“In line with the United Nation’s Charter which designated every 8th of March as International Women’s Day, I congratulate all the noble Women within the Anambra Central Senatorial District which I represent and as well, the entire Women of Nigeria on this very thoughtfully created occasion.
“I join my voice in calling for improved welfare for the Women who obviously work very hard for the sustenance of our nation and play pivotal roles in maintaining good morals and decency in our homes and society in general. I support also, the inclusion of more Women in the devolution of political offices, either elected or appointed as that would enable them contribute more effectively towards achieving good governance and championing the cause of bettering the lives of Women generally.
“I hereby salute all the virtuous Women out there who are working hard to carve a niche for themselves while upholding the dignity of womanhood, and contributing meaningfully to achieving a peaceful and progressive society.
“As a Member of the 10th National Assembly representing the good people of Anambra Central Senatorial District and Member of the Pan-African Parliament, I assure you of my continued advocacy for the rights of the Women and through my office, to ensure the upliftment and empowerment of more Women within my Constituency.”
