Somolu Constituents Rally Behind Orekoya Ahead of 2027

Posted on May 3, 2026

The familiar saying, “the reward for good work is more work,” appears to resonate strongly among residents of Somolu, as growing calls emerge for the return of Hon. Abiodun Orekoya to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2027.

Across the constituency, stakeholders and community members have continued to express satisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance since his election in 2023, citing his legislative contributions, grassroots engagement, and commitment to human capital development as reasons for their renewed support.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Orekoya has been actively involved in legislative processes aimed at strengthening governance and promoting community development. His contributions span key bills, including the Lagos State Administration of Civil Justice Bill (2023), Local Government Administration Bill (2024), and the Community Development Association Bill (2024), among others.

Beyond legislative duties, constituents highlight his interventions in the education sector as a major achievement. Records made available indicate that no fewer than 147 students have benefited from bursary awards, while four students received full scholarships under his sponsorship. In addition, about 250 GCE forms and 150 JAMB forms were distributed to students across the constituency to support access to higher education.

In the area of economic empowerment, Orekoya is reported to have supported over 341 constituents with tools, grants, and business assistance, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and reducing unemployment. He has also facilitated job placements for 29 constituents within the Lagos State public service, according to sources within the constituency.

Orekoya, who currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Social Development, has also been credited with advancing youth engagement programmes. These include youth exchange initiatives, the Orekoya Alliance annual sports tournament, the Somolu Youth Assembly, and Youth-Police dialogue platforms designed to foster trust and collaboration.

Stakeholders say these initiatives have created opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, and capacity building among young people in the constituency.

Infrastructure development is another area frequently cited by supporters. The lawmaker is said to have facilitated the reconstruction and rehabilitation of at least ten roads within Somolu, a move residents claim has improved mobility and boosted economic activities in the area.

With less than a full term completed, many constituents argue that Orekoya’s performance has set a benchmark for representation in Somolu, fueling increasing calls for his return to the Assembly in the next electoral cycle.

Many constituents who spoke on the development said continuity would enable him to consolidate ongoing projects and expand the scope of his interventions across the constituency.
