Posted on August 11, 2023
Yesterday 10th July, 2023, at the Government House, Enugu, a high-profile meeting took place, bringing together the governors of the South Eastern States.
The assembly comprised Gov. Alex Otti of Abia State, Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra State, Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, Mr. Peter Mba of Enugu State, and Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State, who also chairs the South East Governors’ Forum.
Central to the discussions were matters concerning socio-economic cooperation and security collaborations. Plans for a summit to further solidify these ties were hinted at with a formal announcement expected in the near future.
Tackling the ever-pressing issue of insecurity, the governors unanimously agreed on a multi-pronged approach. This involves both individual state-level actions and collective response, all in collaboration with the Federal Government.
In a firm statement, the governors emphasized that those causing unrest in the South East are criminals, with no genuine claims to political agitation. The consensus was clear: such perpetrators, along with their backers, will be dealt with firmly under the rule of Law.
In closing, a commitment was made to uphold and further the current peace and security that the South Eastern States are experiencing. The region’s leaders made it evident that the well-being and safety of their citizens remain a top priority.
