Southern Youth Foundation Backs SSRG’s Appeal For Bayelsa’s Full Tenure In NDDC

Posted on October 13, 2024
The Southern Youth Foundation, SYF, has expressed strong support for the South South Reawakening Group’s (SSRG) call for Bayelsa State to be allowed to complete its full tenure on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), emphasizing that this aligns with statutory provisions and will promote peace, unity, and development in the Niger Delta region.
In a statement following a meeting held in Port Harcourt, the SYF, led by Snr. Comrade Amb. Emeni Ibe, who also serves as President General of the Orashi National Congress, affirmed their commitment to the cause.
The group echoed SSRG’s argument that the NDDC Establishment Act should be upheld, ensuring that Bayelsa’s representative, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, completes his full tenure until August 2027, as mandated.
The SYF emphasized the importance of continuity and accountability in the leadership of the NDDC, arguing that frequent interruptions in statutory appointments had undermined progress.
“Peace and stability are essential for the development we all seek in the region,” the statement read, underscoring the vital role of leadership in driving sustainable development.
Backing the SSRG’s stance, SYF pointed to the successes under Ogbuku’s leadership, including people-centered programmes like the Light-Up Niger Delta initiative and Project HOPE. These projects, according to the group, showcase a renewed focus on infrastructural and economic empowerment that benefits the entire region, particularly its youth.
The SYF concluded by reiterating their belief that allowing Bayelsa State to complete its full tenure will foster further cooperation among Niger Delta states, ensuring that the development gains achieved so far are sustained for the benefit of all.
